“Leading wisely in uncertain environments”

Leapman attended the official presentation of the XVI International Congress on Energy and Mineral Resources Alicante 2027, held on June 25th in the auditorium of the Higher Technical School of Mining and Energy Engineers of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
The opening of the gathering featured speeches by José Luis del Valle (President of the Scientific Committee), José Bernardo González Sánchez (Dean-President of the Official College of Mining Engineers of Levante), and Juan Ignacio Artieda González-Granda (President of the National Association of Mining Engineers). During their presentations, the board of directors highlighted the strategic importance of mineral resources and the need to structure this event as a key space to address the priority challenges and current needs of the sector.

Under the motto "Valuing our natural resources," the congress —which will take place in Alicante from April 21st to 23rd, 2027— has officially opened the call for active participation through the submission of technical papers. The content blocks will be coordinated by the chairs of each thematic area, who outlined the guidelines and objectives of each session:
Mineral Resources: Eloy Álvarez Pelegry will lead the analysis on exploration, resource evaluation, strategic raw materials, and security of supply within the framework of the energy transition.
Mining, Mineral Processing, and Metallurgy: Javier Fernández Cortés will coordinate the block focused on innovation in extractive processes, mineral treatment and valorization, new metallurgical technologies, and industrial competitiveness.
Energy and New Energy Vectors: Antonio González Jiménez will direct the sessions on electrification, hydrogen, alternative fuels, and the integration of renewable energies into sector operations.
Sustainability: María Teresa Mallada de Castro will address responsible mining, the circular economy, environmental management, and relations with the territory to enhance social acceptance.
AI and Digital Transformation: María Jesús Puerta Angulo will head the technical block that will analyze applied artificial intelligence, automation, and the digitalization of processes in the face of new engineering challenges.
Through these five major areas, the structure of the congress presents a vision where new technologies and sustainability are consolidated as the pillars of sectoral development. Digitalization, artificial intelligence, and innovation in processing treatments are directly integrated with the objectives of decarbonization, responsible mining, and resource optimization, defining the technical roadmap for the gathering in Alicante.
