Course date: From 2027/03/10 to 2027/12/31

Manage contracts, suppliers and changes in capital-intensive industrial projects

1. Introduction

In a capital-intensive project, technical control alone is not enough. Strong contracts, well-coordinated suppliers and clear governance are also needed to resolve conflicts before they disrupt construction or plant operations. This programme will help you move from reactive contract administration to a proactive approach. You will learn to structure robust agreements, monitor supplier performance, and manage change orders and claims while keeping costs and schedules under control, from contract signing through to closeout.

  • Dates: To be announced

  • Format: Blended, with live online sessions and independent work

  • Duration: 16 hours

  • Group size: 8 to 12 participants

  • Level: Professional course, EQF Level 6

Our track record: 4.5/5 average rating · 95% pass rate in project management programmes · More than 400 professionals trained.

2. Programme structure

Four live sessions (12 hours) plus independent work (4 hours) to develop a practical case study on resolving claims.

Schedule: To be announced.

3. Skills you will develop

What you will be able to do

  • Structure effective commercial contracts that reduce operational risk at the plant.

  • Coordinate suppliers day to day and monitor their performance using clear KPIs.

  • Prevent and mitigate disputes through governance and escalation procedures at different levels.

  • Manage change orders and financial claims efficiently in uncertain environments.

  • Align contractual obligations with the organisation’s operational and production goals.

4. Who the course is for

This course is designed for professionals who manage or oversee commercial contracts in capital-intensive industrial projects, advanced manufacturing and industrial supply chains:

  • Contract managers

  • Procurement professionals

  • Manufacturing project managers

  • Supply chain leaders

5. How you will learn

  • Learn: Live sessions that connect international standards, such as ISO 44001, with the realities of industrial projects.

  • Practise: Group workshops and simulations. You will draft a service-level agreement (SLA) clause, lead a performance meeting with a supplier facing repeated delays, and design a process for escalating a dispute.

  • Apply: You will develop a Contract Governance, Control and Closeout Master Plan based on a real project and present it with your group in the final session. You will also receive ready-to-use templates: a risk allocation matrix, a contract review checklist, a supplier performance dashboard, a change order log and a claims form.

On completion, you will receive a Leapman Academy Executive Certificate of Achievement. To qualify, you must attend at least 80% of the course and achieve a final score of 70/100 or higher.

6. Instructors
